With Halloween just around the corner, decorating your home may feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to feel that way.
This year I was initially feeling overwhelmed by seeing all the captivating and extravagant Halloween displays. However, you don’t need a big budget to create a spooky home exterior that others are sure to be impressed by.
In this blog post, I’ll share with you some creative and affordable Halloween decorating ideas to bring the Halloween spirit to your home without breaking the bank.

Online Shopping
When shopping for Halloween decor, the first place I will always recommend is shopping online. While it may be more challenging to visualize the products or know exactly what they look like in your spaces, I find that it’s much easier to save money and limit my spending. Who doesn’t like to save some money?
Another perk to online shopping is being able to see easily how much you are spending before ever making a purchase. You may be able to estimate how much you are spending, but with taxes and the odd pricings on items, it’s difficult to get an exact amount which can be important if saving money is your top priority.
For me, my goal was to try to stay within $37 if possible to use up the remainder of an Amazon gift card already on my account without dipping into my bank account. I encourage you to set a budget and stick to it if you truly want to limit your spending on Halloween decor, which for many people is the goal unless you have a lot of money to blow.
Below are just a couple of the online stores I recommend when looking to decorate your home exterior for Halloween!
Amazon
The first place I always look for decorating my own home is Amazon, and this Halloween it did not disappoint! I found an incredible plethora of decorations and managed to spend under $35 to decorate my entire porch. This is how it turned out!

The following are the products I purchased and highly recommend for complete coverage of your home for an affordable price:
This skeleton, while small compared to many Halloween exterior displays I’ve seen, adds a lot of character to any space! The fact that it’s poseable gives you a lot of flexibility in how you use it and can be shaped uniquely to the scene you are looking to create with your Halloween display.
Want a more comical skeleton scene? Try hanging the skeleton decoration from the hands so it appears to be dangling from your porch.
Do you desire for a more spooky scene? Try sticking the skeleton in a spider web like it’s caught or having it wrapped around a porch post like it’s climbing. The possibilities are truly endless!
These were by far my favorite purchase this year! The witch hats sway in the wind and create a spooky vibe that is quite magical. The bats are also a nice touch and were included with this purchase. However, they do take a bit to fold the wings and hang each of them individually. Recruit a friend or family member though, like I did my husband, and it can be done much more quickly (and more fun of course).
Can an exterior Halloween display be complete without a spider web? In my case, I felt that the spider webs really tied the entire display together. Plus, if you are looking to spookify your space for the kids visiting your home this upcoming Halloween, spiders are a great addition.
This eye-catching Halloween caution tape gave the whole display a pop of color that I am here for! Oh and if you need another reason to try it out the first neighbor kid to pass by my house while putting out the Halloween decor said he loved the caution tape and made no mention of the other decorations we had up.
Other Online Stores
Oriental Trading and Walmart are two other examples of stores where you can shop for Halloween decorations online that offer incredible prices. While of course there are more expensive options, I find that both of these stores also sell so many unique products that are far more affordable than a lot of the stores I’ve seen selling Halloween decorations.
Thrift Store Treasures
Have you seen the ghost painting trend on TikTok? I was introduced to it this year and so want to try this out ASAP. For now, I did put together a compilation if you haven’t seen it or need a little extra inspiration you can check it out if you’d like at this link here.
Vintage lanterns or other decorations can also be repurposed into Halloween decor with some creativity and a little bit of time.
Dollar Store Finds
Don’t overlook checking out your local dollar stores! I’ve seen so many DIY videos this time of year of Halloween decorations created using things from Dollar Tree specifically, among other affordable stores.
Shop Post-Halloween For Discounts
If you are a long-term decorator my best advice is to look out for after Halloween sales. While this might not be the best advice for you if you are currently shopping for this year’s decorations, it’s important to keep this in mind if you are interested in purchasing more expensive decorations that are likely to be a fraction of the cost after Halloween.
With these affordable Halloween decorating ideas, you can embrace the spirit of the season without breaking your budget. So, roll up your sleeves, get creative, and transform your outdoor space into a spooky Halloween wonderland that will delight trick-or-treaters and neighbors alike!
